The Curonian Spit National Park Directorate is a budgetary institution that carries out the protection and management of protected territories and implements measures for the protection, management and restoration of biodiversity and the landscape and ecosystems in the Curonian Spit National Park as well as in the part of the territory of the Republic of Lithuania assigned to the Directorate.
The main objectives of the Administration activities in the field of biodiversity conservation are:
– monitoring of biodiversity (natural habitats, species);
– assessing the status of the habitats of strictly protected species;
– preparing and/or coordinating nature management plans and other planning documents;
– providing conclusions on the impact of planned economic activities on protected areas;
– setting conservation objectives for Natura 2000 sites;
– management and eradication of invasive species;
– conducting excursions and hikes to learn about biodiversity and natural values, and organising educational activities;
– informing the public about biodiversity.
The project partner in Lithuania, KlaipÄ—da University, in cooperation with the Administartion of Curonian Spit National Park, which is an associate partner of the project, will implement the following project activities:
– removal of invasive plant species (including testing the effectiveness of different removal methods and the use of remote sensing techniques for mapping the distribution of invasive species), and
– educational and practical activities for different social groups on dune habitat protection.
